The Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic is a non-exempt position responsible for repairing, servicing, and maintaining all the equipment the company owns, including heavy equipment, diesel, gas, and small engines.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel power systems on various construction equipment such as dozers, skid loaders, dump trucks, excavators, and small engines like chainsaws and generators.
  • Test equipment after repairs to ensure proper performance and compliance with specifications.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Use diagnostic tools, including computerized test equipment and calibration devices, to identify malfunctions and necessary repairs.
  • Handle service documentation, order parts, and maintain the service truck.
  • Keep the work area clean.
  • Work both in the shop and at job sites, navigating to locations promptly.
  • Monitor operations to ensure safety standards are met.
  • Assist with other job duties as needed to ensure job completion.
  • Maintain attendance during scheduled hours, including overtime as required.
Experience and Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years of mechanical or automotive experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines, electronic controls, and diagnostic systems.
  • CDL Class A license is a plus.
  • Good driving record and insurability.
  • Ability to perform repairs in both field and shop settings.
  • Ability to interpret electrical and hydraulic schematics and service manuals.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
  • Proficiency with maintenance and repair tools.
  • Strong safety awareness and compliance with safety standards.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and think critically.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal.
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel, including evenings, nights, weekends, and overtime.
  • Proper attire at all times, including safety gear and a professional appearance.
  • Continuous attention to safety and work quality.
  • Own and maintain a personal set of tools and toolbox.
Working Conditions
  • Ability to lift, pull, and push up to 50 lbs, and perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, squatting, twisting, and climbing.
  • Work in various environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, humidity, dust, and noise.
  • Exposure to hot materials, fumes, vapors, grease, oils, and moving equipment.

Employees must follow OSHA and company safety policies to prevent accidents and injuries. Job sites are within a 70-mile radius of Charlotte; applicants should expect up to a one-hour commute and be flexible to move between sites as needed. All applicants will undergo pre-employment screening, including a drug test.
