Summary of Primary Functions:

Dobbs Equipment is seeking an experienced Track, Service Technician. This position is responsible for performing inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy equipment undercarriage in a shop environment or field. Will work alone or in teams. It involves removing and installing complete undercarriages, including tracks, roller frames, rollers, idlers, and sprocket segments. Repairs on broken link assemblies, including the use of a cutting torch, are also required.

This job description does not include a complete listing of all duties and functions. Management reserves the right to assign other duties or projects as necessary.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Follow all safety rules and regulations, maintaining a safe work environment and habits.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Prepare all reports and forms related to job assignments.
  • Report additional work requirements to the Service Manager for safe operation.
  • Participate in training programs as directed.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
  • Report unsafe or unserviceable tools, equipment, or vehicles.
  • Present a professional image of the dealership at all times.
  • Extensive knowledge of John Deere equipment, especially undercarriage components. Experience with other brands is considered case-by-case.
  • Perform inspections and report malfunctions or shortages.
  • Proficient with current computer software and hardware.
  • Ability to remove and install tracks, rollers, idlers, and sprockets.
  • Operate equipment safely.
  • Complete all service tasks assigned by supervisors.
  • Maintain proper documentation and reports.
  • Ensure proper operation and safety of equipment, reporting issues promptly.
  • Participate in skill development and safety training programs.
  • Maintain a professional and clean work environment.
  • Represent the dealership professionally.
  • Care for tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Report to work on time and adhere to schedules, including working up to 12-hour shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Operate company vehicles safely, following motor vehicle laws.
  • Adhere to safety policies of Dobbs Equipment and clients.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment maintenance and operation.
  • Ability to perform repairs using special tools following technical manuals.
  • Operate heavy equipment safely around the shop.
Education and Experience:
  • Associate degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Stay current with technical updates.
  • Proficient in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Knowledge of John Deere and comparable products.
  • Forklift certification preferred.
  • Effective communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent time management and self-motivation.
  • Flexible schedule, including weekends or overtime.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents.
  • Skill development in disassembly, assembly, and repair.
  • Basic math skills.
  • Willingness to travel overnight less than 5% for training.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
Work Environment:

Work is performed in a service shop with exposure to changing temperatures, noise, fumes, dust, and mechanical parts.

Physical Demands:

Must be able to work with PPE, use full range of motion, climb onto equipment, lift loads over 50 lbs, and perform visual and auditory tasks.
