Job summary

QPS Employment Group in Mount Pleasant, IA is seeking a Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks, trailers and fleet equipment. You will work with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, and welding/fabrication systems to keep equipment road-ready.

Direct-hire opportunity; prior heavy-duty repair experience, welding skills, and knowledge of DOT regulations are highly valued.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience with heavy-duty truck and trailer repair preferred.
• Welding and fabrication experience highly preferred.
• Experience performing preventative maintenance and mechanical diagnostics on commercial vehicles preferred.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of truck and trailer systems including engines, brakes, steering, transmissions, electrical systems, and suspension components.
• Ability to perform welding and structural repairs.
• Understanding of DOT regulations and commercial vehicle safety requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety standards.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently manage repair priorities.
• Dependable attendance and proven reliability.
• Positive attitude and ability to work within a team-oriented environment.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to inspect equipment and identify maintenance needs before failures occur.
• Class A CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive maintenance and repair of heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and fleet equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, brake, steering, engine, transmission, and suspension systems.
• Conduct preventative maintenance services, including oil changes, battery testing, lubrication, inspections, and routine servicing.
• Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repairs on trailers and equipment as needed.
• Troubleshoot equipment issues and determine appropriate corrective actions.
• Conduct safety inspections to identify mechanical concerns and ensure equipment readiness.
• Maintain all fleet equipment in accordance with DOT regulations and safety standards.
• Inspect, repair, and replace worn or damaged components to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
• Ensure equipment is roadworthy, load-ready, and operating safely.
• Manage daily repair and maintenance tasks independently while coordinating with team members as needed.
• Follow all company safety procedures and maintenance best practices.

Heavy Duty Truck/Trailer Mechanic Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
