Job summary

The City of Temple, TX is seeking a Heavy-duty Truck Technician to inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel-powered vehicles and machinery including trucks, forklifts, and construction equipment. Under general supervision, you will handle repairs and maintenance per manufacturer specs.

Expect to perform road calls, order parts, conduct road and static tests, and work with outside vendors. Four years of experience and ASE certifications are preferred; EPA Section 609 certification required within 30

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four (4) years experience as a Diesel Engine Technician or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Furnishes own hand tools.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs moderately complex diesel-powered vehicle systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance per manufacturer specifications.
• Orders parts as needed and coordinates with vendors.
• Responds to road calls and test drives to verify repairs.
• Maintains a clean and orderly Fleet Shop and follows safety guidelines.

Under general supervision, the Heavy-duty Truck Technician inspects, diagnoses, and repairs moderately complex issues associated with diesel-powered vehicles and machines, like trucks, forklifts and construction equipment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance services in conformance to manufacturer specifications
• Diagnoses and repairs heavy-duty vehicle and equipment systems
• Orders parts as needed
• Responds to road calls
• Conducts road and static testing to verify repairs
• Takes vehicles to and from outside vendors for repairs and services
• Maintains a clean and orderly Fleet Shop
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines
• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Four (4) years experience as a Diesel Engine Technician or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Furnishes own hand tools

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Valid Class C Driver’s license
• EPA Section 609 Certification within 30 days of employment
• ASE Certifications: T4, T5& T6 (may be substituted with an additional 4 years of heavy duty technician experience)
