Job summary

King County seeks a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic to support the Fleet Services Division. You will diagnose, repair, and maintain gas, diesel, and hybrid powered equipment across county operations, from trucks to road tools, ensuring safe and reliable service for crews.

You will troubleshoot radios, light bars, and security devices, perform welding and fabrication, and document maintenance with our systems.

Qualifications

Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver License and CDL.
Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
Submit a complete tool inventory; temporary inventory provided if incomplete.
First Aid/CPR certification within 6 months of hire.
40 hours work week; overtime may be required.

Responsibilities

Diagnose and repair gas, diesel, and hybrid powered equipment including vehicles, heavy/light trucks, tractors, backhoes, and trailers.
Troubleshoot emergency radios, light bars, and security device systems.
Welding and fabrication on mobile and stationary equipment.
Operate mechanical/ electronic testing equipment to troubleshoot systems.
Maintain service/maintenance/repair records.
Guide apprentices and provide technical direction.
