Job summary

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Division of Vehicles seeks to hire an Automotive Mechanic to serve as a Heavy-Duty Diesel Automotive Mechanic. This role performs skilled repairs and preventive maintenance on medium and heavy-duty trucks and off-road equipment for the state fleet, with a focus on teamwork and professional conduct.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent, CDL Class B, and relevant mechanic experience.

Qualifications

• Requires high school completion or equivalent or vehicle repair coursework.
• Requires experience to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
• Requires a valid CDL – Class B or higher.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled repairs of medium/heavy-duty trucks and off-road equipment.
• Inspect and repair engines, brakes, drive lines and related systems.
• Operate diagnostic tools to identify mechanical problems and service vehicles.
• Maintain shop records with parts used and labor hours.
• Attend to routine upkeep and maintenance tasks.
