Job summary

The Illinois Department of Transportation seeks an Automotive Mechanic to maintain and repair a fleet of vehicles at field HQ and at site locations. Under supervision, you will perform mechanical repairs, routine maintenance, welding, and record-keeping with adherence to safety rules.

Requires high school equivalency and a valid Class A CDL; overtime and on-call during snow/ice; occasional statewide travel; in-office work schedule.

Qualifications

• High school completion or equivalent, or completion of an approved training course.
• Experience to qualify as a skilled mechanic.
• Requires valid Commercial Driver’s License Class A.

Responsibilities

• Perform mechanical repairs on vehicles assigned to field units and at sites.
• Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on a schedule.
• Maintain accurate records of repairs and services.
• Perform minor welding and fabrication.
• Respond to emergencies and perform related duties as assigned.
