Job summary

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) Division of Vehicles seeks a Heavy-Duty Diesel Automotive Mechanic to service the state's fleet of medium and heavy-duty trucks and off-road equipment. This union role emphasizes skilled repairs, preventive maintenance, and accurate shop records for labor and parts used.

The ideal candidate will have a high school equivalence or technical training, a valid CDL Class B license, and experience as a skilled mechanic.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs skilled mechanical repairs of medium/heavy-duty trucks and off-road equipment.
• Inspects and repairs engines, transmissions, brakes, wheel ends and other systems.
• Operates diagnostic equipment to identify mechanical problems in vehicles.
• Maintains shop records of parts used and labor hours.
• Performs basic upkeep and housekeeping of the work area.
• Performs other duties within the scope of the job.
