Job summary

Vitus Search Group is seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic in Houston, TX to diagnose problems, perform repairs, and keep heavy-dut trucks operating safely. This hands-on role requires experience with Class 7–8 vehicles and fleet equipment, and DOT-compliant maintenance.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, and emissions controls while performing preventive maintenance and documenting all work orders.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of diesel mechanic experience preferred.
• Experience on heavy-duty trucks, fleet equipment, or commercial vehicles.
• Strong understanding of diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, steering and suspension.
• Proficient in diagnostic tools and repair information.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty diesel trucks and fleet equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections.
• Troubleshoot diesel engine, electrical, and drivability issues.
• Repair air brake systems, steering, suspension, and driveline components.
• Diagnose and repair DEF, DPF, SCR, and emissions systems.
• Perform electrical diagnostics with meters and scanners.
• Inspect vehicles for safety concerns and potential failures.
• Complete DOT inspections and related repairs as qualified.
• Perform hydraulic system repairs when applicable.
• Respond to breakdowns and assist with emergency repairs.
• Document repairs, parts and labor on work orders.
• Communicate major repair needs and equipment status to leadership.
