Job description

Brayton Energy is a developer of innovative high temperature compact heat exchangers for advanced-cycle gas turbine engines, and thermal energy systems, including thermal and thermo-chemical energy storage.

We are seeking a highly skilled Heat Exchanger Technician to support fabrication, testing, and production of prototype and pilot production heat exchangers. This role is ideal for a hands-on technician who enjoys the challenge and satisfaction of an R&D environment, who is highly attentive to quality, accuracy, and documentation.

Responsibilities
  • Execute mechanical fabrication tasks across a range of stainless steels and nickel alloys, and processes including preparation of details for assembly tack welding, fixturing assemblies for vacuum nickel brazing, hydrostatic pressure testing and leak testing.
  • Support manufacturing operations including QA checks, inspection steps, and adherence to documented processes.
  • Perform leak checks and verify system integrity using standard and specialized methods.
  • Identify assembly, instrumentation, and test issues, document findings thoroughly, and work with senior shop staff and engineering staff to troubleshoot and implement solutions.
  • Attend to long-term heat exchanger durability tests.
  • Record detailed data, test setups, procedures, and results to support engineering and QA requirements.
  • Work closely with engineers and technicians to meet project schedules and technical objectives.
Professional Requirements
  • Engineering Technology degree or equivalent technical training, relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in fabrication, testing, or related technical roles.
  • Broad fabrication capabilities, a strong mechanical aptitude, and the curiosity to learn about the heat exchangers being fabricated and their use.
  • Familiarity with QA and manufacturing workflows.
  • Experience with test setups, instrumentation, troubleshooting, and hands-on problem solving.
  • Proficiency in leak testing methods.
  • Strong documentation skills, including accurate recordkeeping and clear communication of technical activities.
  • Experience in aerospace, energy systems, or advanced R&D environments.
  • Familiarity with heat exchangers, thermal-fluid systems, or complex assemblies.
  • Comfort reading engineering drawings, specs, and test procedures.
