Job summary

Boyd Corp seeks a Heat Exchanger Subject Matter Expert (SME) to lead design, optimization, deployment and troubleshooting of liquid-to-liquid and liquid-to-air heat exchangers, bridging theory with manufacturing and lifecycle management for current and future R&D efforts.

The role requires 5–7+ years in heat exchange, strong technical writing/presentation skills, and ability to travel up to 50% domestically and internationally.

Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical information into actionable engineering solutions.
• 5-7+ years of relevant Heat Exchange experience.
• Unable to sponsor immigration or provide CPT/OPT/STEM OPT for this position.
• Ability to travel 50% domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Understand the industry landscape and product types, including performance, manufacturing methods, and costs for design options.
• Perform heat transfer analyses to validate system heat balances and fluid dynamics.
• Determine optimal heat exchanger sizing based on properties, flow rates and desired performance.
• Model thermal performance with CFD tools and industry software.
• Serve as the technical authority on heat exchanger solutions.
• Select materials to prevent corrosion, erosion and fouling.
• Lead lifecycle management and troubleshooting to reduce downtime.
• Investigate thermal incidents and performance degradation with cross-functional teams.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, procurement, and operations to meet program goals.
• Review proposals, ensure compliance with requirements, and assist vendor qualification.
• Ensure designs meet industry standards and safety protocols.

Job Description

The Heat Exchanger Subject Matter Expert (SME) is the technical authority on liquid-to-liquid and liquid to air heat exchangers, including the design, optimization, deployment, and troubleshooting of liquid cooling heat exchanger solutions. They bridge advanced thermal engineering theory with heat exchanger manufacturing experience, field execution and lifecycle management. Engagement will be for near term and future R&D efforts.

Key responsibilities include:

• Understand the industry landscape and product types, including relative performance, manufacturing methods and relative costs for different design options
• Heat transfer analysis - apply advanced thermodynamics to validate system heat balances, fluid dynamics, and calculate log mean temperature differences.
• Determine optimal heat exchanger sizing based on fluid properties (e.g., density, viscosity, thermal conductivity), flow rates, desired heat transfer performance and specify preferred heat exchanger types.
• Utilize industry-standard software and CFD tools to model thermal performance, flow and pressure drops.
• Act as the technical authority on heat exchanger technical solution.
• Select appropriate materials to prevent corrosion, erosion, and fouling.
• Lifecycle Management & Troubleshooting
• Lead investigations into thermal incidents, fluid leaks, or performance degradation to reduce downtime.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, procurement and operations teams to execute program objectives.
• Review technical proposals, ensure compliance with project requirements, and assist in proposal assessment and vendor qualification.
• Ensure all designs and operations meet industry standards and stringent safety protocols.

Basic (Required) Qualifications

• Minimum Bachelor's degree inMechanical Engineering
• Exceptional technical writing and presentation skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical information into actionable engineering solutions.
• 5-7+ years of relevant Heat Exchange experience.
