Job description

Role OverviewFrom the first spark of your torch to the final pressure test, you’ll craft clean, leak‑tight joints that hold up in heat exchangers, condensers, and evaporators. As a Brazing Technician, you will perform manual brazing and soldering on copper and aluminum components, delivering repeatable quality that meets stringent internal and customer standards.A Day in the LifeYou’ll begin by reviewing work orders and drawings, staging copper tubing, headers, return bends, distributors, and fittings. Joints are prepared with careful cleaning, alignment, and fluxing. With an oxy‑acetylene or induction torch in hand, you’ll tune flame type and temperature, manage heat input, and select the right filler to ensure thorough wetting without overheating or oxidation. Completed assemblies are visually inspected and verified with leak and pressure tests. Any weak points are reworked with precision. Throughout the shift, you’ll maintain torches and tools—replacing tips, cleaning nozzles, and checking gas pressures—while accurately logging joint counts, repairs, and test data in our ERP or production records.Core ResponsibilitiesAssemble coil components (tubes, headers, return bends, distributors, fittings) per blueprints, schematics, and work instructions.Braze and solder copper tubing and fittings using oxy‑acetylene or induction equipment following approved procedures and standards.Control flame characteristics, filler addition, and heat time to achieve consistent, leak‑free results with clean appearance.Prepare joints by cleaning, aligning, and correctly applying flux.Conduct visual and pressure/leak tests; identify defects and perform proper rework.Maintain brazing tools and torches; replace tips, clean nozzles, verify gas pressures daily.Handle and stage materials safely, including copper tubing, nitrogen, flux, and fuel/oxygen gases.Record production and quality metrics accurately in logs or ERP systems.Follow all safety practices related to hot work, open flames, and pressurized gases.Participate in continuous improvement for quality, safety, and throughput.Assist with training new brazers or operators as needed.Report equipment malfunctions or material nonconformances promptly. What You BringProven skill with oxy‑acetylene torch operation, including flame tuning, temperature control, and filler rod technique.Ability to read and apply blueprints, work orders, and assembly diagrams.Excellent hand‑eye coordination and fine motor control for tight, precise joints.Proficiency using measuring tools: tape measures, calipers, gauges, and pressure meters.Keen eye for defects (poor wetting, overheating) with the ability to correct quickly.Knowledge of torch maintenance, safe gas cylinder handling, and regulator setup.Commitment to consistent quality with minimal rework.Strong safety mindset regarding hot work and pressurized systems.Team‑oriented attitude, openness to cross‑training, and continuous improvement.Preferred: High school diploma or GED; 3–6 months of related experience and/or training.Working ConditionsStanding and walking for 8+ hours per shift.Repetitive motions, including reaching, sitting, and stooping.Frequent lifting and handling of 20–50 lbs during the shift.Extended hours and occasional overtime to meet production schedules.Work EnvironmentExposure to loud noise, vibration, and temperature fluctuations.Work in proximity to moving mechanical equipment.PPEGloves, safety glasses, ear plugs, and hard hats are required and provided by the company.Technical ProficienciesRefrigeration SystemsHVAC MaintenanceHVAC TroubleshootingWelding Setups for ProductionCompliance Statement:This job description is intended to convey essential information about the position and is not an exhaustive list of duties.
