Under the supervision of the Heart and Vascular Center (HVC) leadership, the HVC Sonographer performs a variety of technical and professional duties utilizing complex imaging equipment to produce quality ECHO and/or Vascular images for physician interpretation. All duties are performed in accordance with departmental and organizational policies. The role promotes service excellence in all interactions and performs cardiac and/or vascular ultrasounds, interprets results, coordinates schedules, and provides feedback to physicians. Staff may be assigned to any HVC location as needed.


Responsibilities

  1. Performs quality and efficient ultrasound exams to assist with diagnostics.
    • Follows protocols and physician prescriptions. Minimizes repeats due to non-compliance or poor quality.
  2. Provides accurate and compassionate patient care, ensuring safety and satisfaction.
    • Uses two patient identifiers, crosschecks identifiers, and confirms examination details to ensure accuracy.
  3. Performs record-keeping tasks to meet department goals and ensure operational efficiency.
    • Demonstrates mastery of computer systems related to cardiovascular imaging, including scheduling and documentation.
  4. Participates in ongoing learning and training to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Maintains certification, completes mandated training, and documents compliance.
  5. Follows safety procedures to ensure a safe environment.
    • Operates equipment safely, following policies to minimize injury risks.
Qualifications

Education: Associate degree required; must meet one of the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited (CAAHEP) School of Diagnostic Sonography
  • Graduate of an accredited Allied Health program with 12 months of Diagnostic Medical Sonography instruction

Experience: Demonstrated technical skills meeting entry-level standards for HVC imaging.

Licensure: Cardiac Sonographer: RDCS (ARDMS) / RCS (CCI); Vascular Sonographer: RVT; BLS certification within 3 months of hire; ICAEL/IAC accreditation with required CMEs.

Skills: Proficient in echo and vascular imaging; strong computer, organizational, communication, and customer service skills.

Physical Demands: Ability to lift and push 40 lbs., extended periods of sitting, walking, standing, and moving equipment. Reasonable accommodations will be considered for disabilities.
