Position Title: Hearing Support Teacher Assistant Position -Traveling

Position Summary/Goal: The Hearing Support Teacher Assistant will reinforce the classroom teacher's instruction, guide practice on specific skills, and provide tutorial assistance when needed.

Term of Employment: 9 month position

Reporting Relationship: Reports to building principal, classroom teacher, and Special Education Supervisor

Salary: LCL 1968 contract

Certification

• Minimum Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) rating 3.5 or higher in the assigned setting.

Education Requirements (one Of The Below Must Be Met)

• Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Status (Certificate) approved by the Erie School District or the State of Pennsylvania;
• Possess an associate degree or higher;
• 2 years of postsecondary study (48+ credits required)

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency to interpret/transliterate (expressive voice) at a normal conversational rate, American Sign Language and Conceptually Accurate Signed English.
• Certified in First Aid & CPR.
• Handle with Care Certification.
• Demonstrate ability to collaborate with educators and students. Working knowledge of Erie School District policies, procedures, and organizational structure.
• Must hold or obtain FBI, State Police, and Child Abuse clearances.

Special Requirements

• Physical requirements are the same as those encountered in the course of a typical professional school environment.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Assist the teacher with various clerical and monitorial duties as assigned. Typical activities may include reproduction of instructional materials, helping students with lessons and correcting papers.
• Provide expressive and form of manually coded English, and/or interpreting for hearing-impaired students when necessary and when interpreting is not needed.
• Participate in educational team meetings, including the development and review of progress on the Individual Education Plan, providing insight on the success of communication strategies.
• Provide interpreting for extracurricular activities and parent meetings when necessary.
• Assist in providing orientations to deafness to hearing students and staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned by building principals, classroom teacher and Special Education Supervisor.
