Job summary

The NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) is recruiting a Community Associate to function as a Customer Service Monitor for HEAP across the City. You will act as a bridge between HRA units, city agencies, customers and community organizations to resolve heat-related issues and process HEAP applications.

You will research inquiries, provide information and technical assistance, and train community-based professionals. Field visits and outreach materials support are also part of the role.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or related duties.
• Equivalent education/experience to fulfill the above requirement.

Responsibilities

• Act as liaison between HRA units, city agencies, customers, and community organizations to resolve HEAP-related problems and process applications.
• Research client inquiries and draft correspondence accordingly.
• Provide information and technical assistance to individuals, groups or organizations participating in HEAP.
• Provide training on HEAP procedures and the application process for community-based professionals and conduct follow-up activities to ensure outreach.
• Conduct field visits to HEAP office sites to ensure compliance with procedures.
• Assist the Director, Central Operations in preparing flyers and other public relations materials on HEAP and energy programs.

Education
