Job summary

Indiana University Health is seeking a full-time Public Safety Officer at Methodist Hospital to perform patrols, respond to incidents, and enforce hospital rules. The role requires a high school diploma, up to 3 years of security experience, a valid Indiana driver’s license, and completion of LEA Tier I/II within one year.

Candidates must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS access and pass a background check, drug screen, and psychological exam. This position is onsite with rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 0–3 years of relevant security experience.
• Valid Indiana driver's license.
• Must complete Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II within one year after appointment.
• Must obtain NCIC/IDACS certification and access.
• No felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor convictions.
• Successful pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
• Working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
• Must not have had law enforcement license denied or revoked.
• Not currently suspended or have voluntary surrender of license.

Responsibilities

• Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols around IU Health properties.
• Responds to calls for service.
• Enforces IU Health rules, regulations, policies and state statutes.
• Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests and patients.
• Assists in de‑escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations.
• Proactively works to prevent crime and safety incidents.
• Responds to and investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed.
• Maintains records and logs and completes written reports as required.
• Performs physical security screening as required.
• Creates a safe healthcare environment for team members, patients and guests.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the chain of command.
