Job summary

Indiana University Health’s Public Safety department in Bloomington is seeking qualified security leadership to protect patients, staff and visitors. The role involves patrols, incident response, and enforcing hospital policies across facilities in the Bloomington area.

The position requires significant law enforcement experience, Indiana certification readiness, and the ability to coordinate with other agencies. A rotating full-time schedule covers day and night shifts.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED with 5 years law enforcement experience OR an Associate's degree with 3 years law enforcement experience.
• Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.
• Must complete Indiana Law Enforcement Tier I or II training and IU Health DPS field training.
• Must obtain NCIC/IDACS certification.
• No felony, domestic violence or violent misdemeanor convictions.
• Must pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.
• Working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
• License must not have been denied or revoked by final order.
• Not currently suspended or surrendered.

Responsibilities

• Conducts rounding and foot and vehicle patrols around IU Health properties.
• Responds to calls for service and enforces IU Health rules and state statutes.
• Provides direction and guidance to team members, guests, and patients.
• Assists in de-escalating tense, uncertain and emotional situations.
• Proactively prevents crime and safety incidents.
• Investigates criminal activity and vehicle crashes as needed.
• Maintains records and writes reports.
• Performs physical security screening as required.
• Oversees shift operations and supervises officers and Public Safety Officers.
• Assigns work and schedules to ensure proper shift coverage.
• Assists other public safety agencies as needed.
• Responds to on-scene requests and coordinates with jurisdictions.
