Job summary

Melrose/Wakefield Hospital is seeking a per diem Public Safety Instructor to plan and deliver comprehensive safety training for officers and hospital staff. The role includes CPR instruction, AVADE programs, and firearms safety, with opportunities to obtain additional instructor certifications.

Responsibilities include developing drills, evaluating performance, and coordinating with department leadership to ensure compliance with safety policies. Flexible hours and 8 hours weekly are typical.

Qualifications

• CPR certification and instructor certification required or obtainable.
• Experience in safety, security, or related training.
• Instructors certifications in AVADE and firearms safety are preferred.
• Ability to develop and deliver safety training in a healthcare setting.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate Public Safety training programs.
• Develop and facilitate safety drills and competency evaluations.
• Coordinate drills across departments and leadership for readiness.
• Provide post-drill feedback and corrective actions.
• Conduct CPR instruction and certification in line with certifying bodies.
• Lead AVADE training including active shooter and de-escalation topics.
• Conduct firearms safety training and equipment handling sessions.
• Provide equipment training for restraints and OC spray.
• Maintain training records and certifications.
• Ensure alignment with hospital policies and safety standards.
• Identify training needs with leadership; develop resources and schedules.
• Attend and complete instructor-development programs as directed.
