Job summary

Johns Hopkins Hospital is seeking a Public Safety Sergeant to provide frontline leadership for the East Baltimore Public Safety team. You will supervise security staff, coordinate daily operations, respond to incidents, and train personnel to uphold safety across the campus.

The ideal candidate brings a background in healthcare security or public safety, with strong communication and supervisory skills. This full-time role offers weekends and holidays coverage and opportunities for career growth

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 5 years in security/public safety
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience
• Valid driver’s license with ≤5 points and SAMBA safety score
• Must be at least 21 years old
• Preferred: Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field
• Healthcare security experience
• Specialized training in emergency response or security management

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support Public Safety Officers and security staff during assigned shifts
• Coordinate daily security operations including patrol, surveillance, access control, and emergency response
• Respond to incidents and emergencies with professional resolution, conduct investigations and document security-related incidents
• Assist with officer training, drills, and readiness initiatives
• Monitor security systems and recommend safety protocol improvements
• Partner with hospital departments and external agencies to strengthen campus security
• Promote professionalism, accountability, and customer service within the team
