Job summary

Excel Care in Atlantic City, New Jersey is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Director to lead our Maintenance Department and keep the facility safe, comfortable, and running smoothly for residents and staff. You’ll supervise the maintenance team, schedule preventive maintenance, coordinate with nursing and other departments, manage life-safety documentation, and work with contractors to stay on budget.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; associate degree preferred.
• 3+ years of maintenance experience, ideally in a healthcare/long-term care setting.
• Working knowledge of boilers, compressors, generators, and mechanical/electrical/plumbing systems.
• Comfort with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Strong leadership, independent judgment, and tact when interacting with residents, families, staff, and inspectors.
• Ability to lift, push, or pull 25+ lbs and assist evacuations in an emergency.

Responsibilities

• Lead, staff, and support the maintenance team through training, performance reviews, and open communication.
• Plan and carry out preventive maintenance, daily rounds, and work orders to fix issues before they grow.
• Keep electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, generator, elevator, and nurse call systems in good working order.
• Run fire drills, safety inspections, and the lockout/tagout program, and manage SDSs and hazardous materials properly.
• Maintain Life Safety and OSHA logs and documentation, and help prepare for state and federal surveys.
• Serve as Safety Coordinator, chair the monthly Safety Committee, and partner on emergency preparedness.
• Work with outside contractors, review invoices, and help plan the department budget.
• Coordinate with Nursing, Dietary, Activities, and other departments.
• Look after the grounds, including snow and ice removal.
• Provide 24-hour on-call support for emergencies.
