Job summary

Monroe County Hospital & Clinics is seeking a skilled Medical Coder with RHIT certification or equivalent experience in Albia, IA. The role focuses on accurate ICD-10, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding, documentation quality, and compliant releases of information.

Primary duties include chart review, deficiency analysis, coding for facility and professional services, and accurate charge monitoring. A strong team player with attention to detail will thrive in this environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Current coding or RHIT certification or equivalent experience
• Mandatory reporting certified or within 90 days of hire
• Excellent ICD-10 CM, CPT-4 and HCPCS coding skills

Responsibilities

• Reviews documentation on each medical record.
• Performs documentation deficiency analysis, checks records for proper documentation, signatures and results.
• Assigns codes to all patient types using ICD-10, CPT-4, HCPCS and modifiers.
• Assigns facility and physician levels on ER patients according to guidelines and policies.
• Assigns facility, professional and anesthesia procedure codes for surgery encounters.
• Monitors charges on all patient types, debiting or crediting as necessary.
• Assigns proper infusion billing hierarchy according to current guidelines.
• Assists with release of information requests, walk-ins and phone requests.
• Assists with scanning/uploading documents into EHR as needed.
• Maintains certification by attending education opportunities when applicable.
• Regular and reliable attendance; adherence to standards of behavior.
• Maintains patient and hospital confidentiality; promotes positive relationships with patients, visitors, coworkers, and providers.
• Participates in department huddles, in-services, meetings and educational opportunities.
