Job summary

Highmark Health is offering the Summer 2027 Data Science Research & Development (DSRD) Graduate Internship. The program enables graduate students to apply advanced data science, ML, AI, and software engineering to real healthcare data and challenges.

Interns collaborate with researchers, data scientists, ML engineers, and software developers to build innovative analytics solutions spanning knowledge graphs, medical imaging, predictive modeling, and AI applications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
• Pursuing a graduate degree full or part-time in an accredited college or university.
• Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline.
• Strong programming experience in Python.
• Experience utilizing modern data science libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, PyTorch, and/or TensorFlow.
• Proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts.

Responsibilities

• Communicate effectively with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders in planning assignments and resolving problems.
• Under supervision, provide professional services aligned with day-to-day objectives and receive mentoring.
• Undertake and participate in projects to develop professional skills and expertise.
• Participate in planning and implementing unit projects within area of expertise.
• Conduct research and reporting with recommendations or alternatives as requested by management.
• Undertake related studies or enrichment programs for objectives of the operating unit.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.
