This role is crucial in promoting a culture of wellness and ensuring our members successfully reach their potential through a personalized, holistic, and non-judgmental approach.

Health Coaching at Well is a blended, human-digital experience. Coaches interact with our members through phone and also through our HIPAA-compliant messaging platform. Well has a large library of proprietary journeys and videos, and coaches can offer these and other resources for clients to access between sessions, to maximize behavior change.

Key Responsibilities

Client Assessment, Health Baselining & Goal Setting: Conduct comprehensive initial assessments to understand the client's current (baseline) health status, lifestyle, goals, challenges, and motivations. Collaborate with clients to establish a vision for future wellness and an action plan to achieve it utilizing specific, realistic, measurable, achievable, and time-bound wellness goals.

Individualized Coaching: Build and sustain meaningful 1:1 relationships with clients. Show empathy and active listening to build rapport. Co-develop and implement personalized actions plans to reach wellness goals, guiding clients with relevant behavior change strategies, health education, and skill-building activities. Provide ongoing one-on-one and/or group coaching sessions, based on experience, training and company strategy (primarily telephonic and/or chat).

Support and Accountability: Serve as a consistent source of motivation, encouragement, and accountability for clients. Track progress, monitor outcomes, and adjust coaching strategies as needed to ensure goal attainment and progress towards client and company health outcomes, such as improvements in BMI, stress reduction, mood improvement, BP management, etc.

Health Education: Deliver accurate and evidence-based information on various wellness topics, including mindful eating, stress reduction techniques, sleep hygiene, and the importance of regular exercise. Note: Coaches do not diagnose conditions or prescribe treatments. Coaching sessions should primarily be spent in direct coaching activities and not in didactic education.

Collaboration: Work with other healthcare professionals (e.g., physicians, nurses, dietitians, exercise professionals) as necessary, with client consent, to provide coordinated and comprehensive support.

Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate and confidential client records, document coaching sessions, manage schedules, respond to coaching clients in the chat feature between sessions as needed.

Ethical practice: Take personal responsibility for keeping all Well systems and data, including sensitive member data, secure and safe, according to Well data and security policies and HIPAA guidelines.

Other activities: During client no-shows or cancellations, coaches may be asked to assist with general Well Guide duties such as outreach to members, or to assist on a chat-based coaching queue.

Onboarding
  • Health Coaches will participate in an initial onboarding process that sets you up for success to work in our broader Member Services department, and for coaching at Well.
  • Well uses an evidence-based health coaching protocol, and will train coaches in this if they are not already familiar with it. This protocol includes establishing a wellness vision at the start of the coaching experience, and other parameters for within session flow including a goal review that is distinct from goal-setting, etc.
