Job summary

UW Health’s University Hospital in Madison seeks a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to support unit operations, admissions, transfers and discharges. You will handle phones, organizing files, and maintaining records while collaborating with clinicians to ensure smooth patient flow.

The role emphasizes excellent communication, organizational skills, and reliable clerical support in a fast-paced hospital setting. This is a full-time on-site position with varying shifts and weekend requirements.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma Required.
• 1 year of experience in a medical or customer service environment or experience of a similar nature Required.
• 1 year of experience in a medical environment Preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage and facilitate the day-to-day operations of a unit.
• Answer phones, organize files, order supplies, handle correspondence, manage databases, and provide general support to patients, family members and other staff.
• Collaborate with the clinical team to coordinate all aspects of patient care including patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Maintain accurate electronic health records and perform other clerical duties.
