Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the Med/Surg unit on the Cleveland Clinic Main Campus. This role supports patient flow and administrative operations in a fast-paced thoracic surgery stepdown unit, coordinating admissions, transfers and post‑care documentation.

The J52 unit is a 24-bed unit specializing in the care of patients with a broad range of medical and surgical conditions. This includes individuals preparing for pre-cardiac catheterization and PTCAs, as well as those undergoing electrophysiological studies for arrhythmias, AICD or pacemaker placement, and those experiencing unstable angina. The unit also cares for post-thoracic surgery patients recovering from procedures such as lobectomies, pneumonectomies, thoracoscopic bilateral lung volume reduction for emphysema, and esophagogastrectomies. As a Health Unit Coordinator on this floor, your daily responsibilities will include performing various administrative and clerical tasks to support the organization and flow of the department. Here, you will provide exceptional customer service to patients, families and visitors, ensuring everyone has the best experience possible.

A caregiver in this role works weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 7:00 a.m. -- 7:00 p.m., plus one flexible day during the week, with day or night shift availability.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

• Conduct an in-person greeting, welcome and orientation to the unit for newly admitted and transferred patients.
• Respond to patient call lights and make rounds.
• Assist with processing patient admissions, transfers and discharges.
• Assist patients and families with wayfinding and directing them to available resources.
• Assemble and maintain patient medical records and other documents related to patient care.
• Handle various computer tasks, such as updating schedules and managing patient information.
• Assist with unit clerical functions and in trouble‑shooting equipment failures, such as call system, portable phones, WOWs and other unit devices.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• High School Diploma or GED
• One year of experience in a customer service‑related role
• Experience with typing, computer training or equivalent coursework

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

• College degree
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

Physical Requirements:

• Requires full range of motion, manual and finger dexterity and eye‑hand coordination.
• Requires frequent data entry, standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
• Requires normal or corrected speech, hearing and vision.
• Requires some exposure to communicable disease or body fluids.
