Job summary

AdventHealth in Tampa, FL is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator to support the department with accurate charting, medication preparation, and patient data posting. You will work a full-time day shift, interact with patients and staff, and uphold AdventHealth's values of safety, service, and teamwork.

Preferred candidates have a high school diploma or GED, familiarity with medical terminology, and proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

• Must have clear English communication and legible handwriting.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Proficiency with computer systems and typing is essential.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department.
• Upholds AdventHealth's core values in daily practice.
• Notifies and references other departments or physicians as needed and updates patient charts and records.
• Accesses medication room and secures medications on arrival to the floor.
• Demonstrates willingness to learn and upgrade skills.
• Supports quality standards and improvement initiatives within the department.
• Documents activities and monitors performance indicators as required.
• Interacts with patients in a manner appropriate to age, acuity, and culture.
• Posts relevant patient data in a timely manner.
• Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
• Provides indirect patient care related to admission, transfer, and discharge.

Job Description

• Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit.

• Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and places appropriate information on the chart, forms, computer, and electronic record.
• Accesses the medication room to place medications in a secure area upon arrival to the floor.
• Other duties as assigned.
• Exhibits a desire to learn and upgrade skills.
• Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department.
• Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities and accurately documents and monitor activities as needed.
• Interacts with patients in a manner appropriate to their age, acuity, and culture.
• Posts pertinent patient data in a timely manner.
• Responds appropriately in emergency situations.
• Performs indirect patient care duties related to admission, transfer, and discharge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Field of Study

High school diploma or GED equivalent or Completion of Health Unit Coordinator Course Work Experience: 1+ recent hospital experience or similar as a health unit coordinator; such as medical office or outpatient clinic.

Licenses and Certifications
