Job summary

AdventHealth Tampa is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator for the night shift to support department operations and patient care documentation. You will manage records, communicate with physicians, and ensure accurate charting in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Minimum 1+ year hospital experience and a high school diploma are required; BLS CPR certification is a must. Strong English, handwriting, and computer skills help ensure smooth unit flow and quality care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; preferred health unit coordinator coursework.
• Minimum 1+ year hospital experience as a health unit coordinator.
• BLS CPR certification required.
• Able to follow clinical and non-clinical documentation protocols.
• Proficient with MS Office and basic computer tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform duties to ensure smooth operation of the department.
• Enter and manage patient data in charts and electronic records.
• Notify physicians and other departments as needed.
• Maintain organization and accuracy in medication areas.
• Support performance improvement initiatives and patient care transitions.

Job Description: Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure the smooth operation of the department or unit. Notifies and calls other departments or physicians when necessary and places appropriate information on the chart, forms, computer, and electronic record. Accesses the medication room to place medications in a secure area upon arrival to the floor. Other duties as assigned. Exhibits a desire to learn and upgrade skills. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Participates in practice changes resulting from performance improvement activities and accurately documents and monitor activities as needed. Interacts with patients in a manner appropriate to their age, acuity, and culture. Posts pertinent patient data in a timely manner. Responds appropriately in emergency situations. Performs indirect patient care duties related to admission, transfer, and discharge.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Sufficient knowledge of English and spelling to perform various non-clinical duties. [Required]

Work Experience:

• 1+ recent hospital experience or similar as a health unit coordinator; such as medical office or outpatient clinic. [Required]
