Fairview is looking for a Health Unit Coordinator at St. John's Hospital in Maplewood, MN. This position is 40 hours per two weeks on the evening, for 8 hour shifts, and every other weekend.

Responsible for patient care duties and activities for a group of patients. Health Unit Coordinators are part of a dynamic care team including Providers, RN's, Nursing Assistants and Department Leaders, creating an atmosphere of hospitality and efficiency. Using EPIC, the Health Unit Coordinator plays a critical role in the coordination of information ensuring an optimal patient visitor experience.

This unit has a total of 29 beds that sees abdominal pains, falls, strokes, chest pain, headaches etc within Pediatric through geriatric patients. This is the only ER in Minnesota that has a result pending room for patients nearing the end of their treatment so that they can wait for discharge paperwork, which opens our active treatment rooms sooner.

  • Maintains knowledge of, and complies with, all relevant laws, regulations, policies, procedures and standards
  • Actively participates in creating and implementing improvements
  • Supports the Nursing Process to achieve outcome focused patient care
  • Achieves customer service excellence by understanding the needs of all internal and external customers, patients, families, physicians and the interdependent team
  • Prioritizes and transcribes written doctor's orders under the supervision of the RN
  • Documents patient information in EHR and/or other electronic system in accordance with program standards, department policies/procedures
  • Patient Care Delivery: Observes and collects pertinent data and/or clinical findings to enhance patient outcomes
  • Patient Education: Provides patient educational information appropriate to the developmental level, learning needs, readiness, cultural values, and beliefs of patients and families
  • Patient Safety: Demonstrates practices that support safety with recognition of variations in populations served, preventing harm to patients, families, employees, and themselves

Requirements

  • Experience: 1 to 3 years office experience required, preferably in a health care setting.
  • Electronic Health Record knowledge required/experience preferred.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Valid Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) preferred
  • Patient care experience preferred
  • Medical terminology knowledge/experience preferred
  • HUC certificate

  • Attention to Detail: Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task
  • Computer Skills Basic: Ability to use a computer and applications that are associated with performing basic work tasks (navigate in Windows, Outlook, etc)
  • Interpersonal Communication: Skilled in developing effective rapport with customers, co-workers, or families, actively listening to develop a positive connection
  • Office Skills: Knowledge and application of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Organization: Effective management of projects, deadlines, and work load prioritizing; putting things together in an orderly and functional whole
  • Problem Solving: Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses appropriate tools and staff resources along with good judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
  • Safety Testing and Practices: Knowledge and application of safety practices, fire and disaster policies and procedures; safety testing, performance verification, and operations procedures for different types of equipment
