Health Unit Coordinator – Full Time | UPMC Presbyterian, Perioperative Care

UPMC Presbyterian is currently hiring aFull-Time Health Unit Coordinatorfor our Perioperative Care unit. This position provides a consistent Monday through Friday schedule from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, withno on-call duties, weekends, or holiday shifts.As a Health Unit Coordinator, you’ll be the welcoming face of the unit—greeting patients, families, and staff, keeping communication flowing, and ensuring smooth coordination of patient care, tests, and procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains designated supply levels and family lounge upkeep, performs unit audits, monitors noise levels, and strictly follows patient care, HIPAA, and safety policies.
  • Handles all unit communications including answering phones, paging, faxing, and mail distribution; greets and assists visitors, physicians, and staff.
  • Utilizes hospital information systems such as eRecord, MARS, Medipac, Bedboard, and Teletracking to update patient flow, enter physician orders, and coordinate tests, procedures, and patient transports.
  • Maintains medical records and patient identification accuracy, manages office equipment maintenance and repair requests, and reports Bedboard discrepancies promptly.
  • Supports effective communication and professional relationships within the team, suggests departmental improvements, and takes ownership of assigned tasks.
  • Serves as a resource and preceptor for new staff, actively seeks feedback, identifies learning needs, and participates in self-review, projects, and committees to enhance performance.
