Responsibilities What You'll Do: As a Health Unit Coordinator, you will be the heartbeat of our unit, serving as a key resource for nursing staff, patients, and visitors. Your responsibilities will include: Coordinating with Precision: Perform coordinating functions accurately and efficiently to support patient care. Welcoming Patients and Visitors: Greet patients and visitors with a warm smile, providing them with direction and essential information. Managing Unit Information: Maintain up-to-date unit information sources, including care assignments, to ensure seamless operations. Prioritizing Needs: Assess and prioritize unit and patient needs in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, and standards. Communicating Effectively: Engage in courteous, responsive, and timely interpersonal communication with all stakeholders. Processing Orders: Accurately and promptly process physician orders within your scope of practice. Facilitating Admissions and Discharges: Efficiently manage patient admissions, transfers, and discharges, documenting all activities in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Providing Clerical Support: Offer essential clerical support to the unit and hospital, ensuring all administrative tasks are completed efficiently. Championing Customer Service: Demonstrate a customer service approach in all interactions, making every patient feel valued and cared for. Participating in Quality Improvement: Engage in quality improvement activities to evaluate and enhance systems and processes that support exceptional patient care. Upholding Confidentiality: Maintain patient confidentiality at all times, adhering to HIPAA regulations and hospital policies. Qualifications Education: Requires a high school diploma. A Health Unit Coordinator/Medical Secretary Certificate or a two-year degree in Health Unit Coordination/Medical Secretarial studies is preferred. Experience: At least 1 year of work experience in a Health Unit Coordinator or Medical Secretary position is preferred. Communication Skills: Strong communication and telephone skills are essential for effective interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members. Organizational Skills: Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that all responsibilities are met efficiently. Technical Skills: Proficient computer and clerical skills to manage electronic health records and other administrative tasks. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish effective relationships with healthcare team members and contribute to a collaborative work environment. Customer Service Skills: Strong customer service skills, with a commitment to providing exceptional care and support to patients and their families. Pay range for this position is $20 to $26 depending on education and experience. We are committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation. An individual's pay rate within the posted range is determined by several factors, including skills, experience, education, and market conditions.
