CLINIC HEALTH TECHNICIAN

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
The Clinic Health Technician, under the direction of the Director of Special Education or Designee, plays
a vital role in supporting healthcare professionals to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the
school-based health center/clinic. This position encompasses a wide range of clerical support activities
aimed at assisting with the nurse practitioner or designated healthcare professional.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Conduct reception and initial patient intake/assessments as directed by the nurse practitioner or medical professionals. E
- Manage online immunization programs, such as but not limited to, Vaccines for Children (VFC) Management Plans, and input data into CAIRS or other applicable platforms. E
- Perform initial intake such as but not limited to: vital exams, temperature check, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations. E
- Conduct vision, hearing, height and weight screenings. E
- Maintain documentation of immunizations ordered through the (VFC) Program and all other applicable programs. E
- Manage manual and electronic medical records and all other applicable records. E
- Assist in maintaining an aseptic environment at all times. E
- Prepare patient charts. E
- Provide customer service such as but not limited to telephone calls. E
- Unpack deliveries and stock exam rooms and all applicable areas with medical, lab and all other supplies. E
- Submit supply order requests to supervisor including creating purchase orders, maintain inventories, and monitor expiration dates of stock, which may include but not limited to vaccines. E
- Store and dispose of medications and vaccines securely. Maintain and log proper calibration of equipment, monitor vaccines daily for proper storage and document temperature, service records, etc. E
- Schedule appointments. E
- Assist with sharing instructions provided by the nurse practitioner or medical professionals. E
- Perform clerical duties as part of the emergency vaccination transfer team to include but not limited to, testing, certification, etc., for vaccines and other emergency protocols. E
- Process Medi-Cal and all other applicable healthcare claims to ensure accurate and timely reimbursement for patient services. E
- Log student interactions and services into Paradigm or equivalent software. E
- Provide and maintain records, progress reports and all other applicable reports upon request including but not limited to, necessary information for clinical audits, inspections, reports and recertifications. E
- Provide information and assistance regarding medical issues, health center services, and enrolling in healthcare programs as directed by the nurse practitioner, medical professionals or approved designee to school personnel and the public. E
- Respond to requests for information of a specialized or confidential nature requiring the use of discretion and judgement in explaining regulations and procedures as directed by the nurse practitioner, medical professionals or approved designee. E
- Coordinate and schedule with site staff visits and appointments when needed. E
- Maintains confidentiality of information processed or received during the course of performing assigned duties. E
- Develop and implement office procedures and create a variety of forms for the health center as well as maintain a filing system for patient medical records and all other applicable records. E
- Follow up for patient compliance and reports. E
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Graduation from High School or equivalent.
- Complete testing certifications to handle Vaccines, Sharps and Medication disposal.
- Previous health or medical experience and familiarity with school setting desirable.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Clinical functions and basic client care.
- Medical terminology and procedures.
- Record-keeping and statistical analysis.
- District health and safety regulations.
- Aeries or other applicable platforms for immunization, vision/hearing screenings, and first-grade physical documentation.
ABILITY TO:
- Work under the direct and indirect supervision
- Plan, organize and coordinate work
- Communicate effectively with students, community, parents, and staff. Relate and communicate effectively with students, parents, school site staff, community agencies and resource people both orally and in writing.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships with staff in performance or required duties.
- Maintain confidentiality and security of sensitive information
- Ability to work with constant and regular interruptions.
- Ability to interact both in-person and via phone/email with various individuals, including staff, patients, families, community, agencies, healthcare providers, medical and nurse practitioner staff and students, state and county agencies, etc.
- Operate standard office equipment
CERTIFICATION:
- CPR and First Aid Certification and Valid California Driver’s License
WORKING CONDITIONS: Environment: Office, Clinic, possible school sites/departments.
