Wellmark, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer Internship for our Technology Health Plan in Des Moines. You’ll work hybrid, contribute to API modernization, UI improvements, and new tooling while gaining hands-on health insurance tech experience.

The internship targets juniors/seniors or master's students in computer science, MIS, or related fields with strong problem-solving and writing skills. Start is May 2027, with a hybrid schedule at our Des Moines headquarters.

Qualifications

• Current junior or senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree, or current master's student, in a technical field.
• Foundational knowledge of software development technologies such as typescript, REST API, AWS native, API enabling technology, NODE and SDLC.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills with attention to detail and initiative.
• Ability to troubleshoot and develop creative technical solutions.
• Proficiency with Visual Studio and Microsoft Office products (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel).
• Excellent writing and communication skills.

Responsabilités

• Support the conversion and modernization of existing SOAP/REST APIs and learn modern development practices.
• Identify and implement UI enhancements to improve usability and user experience.
• Design, build, and test new features within existing user interfaces based on business needs.
• Contribute to modernization initiatives by evaluating components and updating for maintainability.
• Help design and develop a new tool to support data comparison or mapping and define requirements.
• Learn the medical product configuration process and improve supporting tools and workflows.
