Job description

Health & Safety Professional – Power Generation Outages

EnRetro Power Generation Services
W-2 Outage Assignment-Based Employment | Nationwide Travel Required
Base Pay: $52.00/hour
2027 outage assignments anticipated to begin mid-to-late January

EnRetro Power Generation Services is recruiting experienced Health & Safety Professionals to support power-generation maintenance outages throughout the United States.

This is a field-intensive safety position for professionals who are comfortable working directly with craft personnel, supervision, project leadership, contractors, and customer representatives in fast-paced outage environments.

Safety Professionals should expect to spend approximately 90% of the workday in the field observing work, identifying hazards, coaching crews, supporting safe execution, and communicating conditions to project leadership.

We are looking for professionals who can walk into an active outage, understand the work taking place, establish credibility with crews, recognize changing conditions, and take action when work is not adequately controlled.

What You Will Do

Responsibilities may include:

  • Conduct field safety observations and work-area walkdowns
  • Participate in daily turnover meetings and pre-job briefs
  • Review JHAs/JSAs and planned work for adequate hazard controls
  • Monitor Lockout/Tagout and hazardous-energy-control activities
  • Recognize changing work scope and potential LOTO boundary concerns
  • Support confined-space permitting, atmospheric monitoring, and rescue readiness
  • Monitor hot work, fall protection, scaffold access, electrical hazards, and PPE requirements
  • Identify line-of-fire, pinch-point, caught-between, and dropped-object hazards
  • Support crane, rigging, overhead-lift, and critical-lift safety
  • Monitor powered industrial vehicle and equipment activities
  • Coach employees and supervisors on safe work practices
  • Address repeated unsafe behavior and elevate concerns when necessary
  • Exercise Stop-Work Authority when conditions warrant
  • Conduct or assist with safety orientations, toolbox talks, and safety meetings
  • Support incident and near-miss investigations
  • Assist with corrective actions, lessons learned, and Root Cause Analysis
  • Identify Human Performance risks and error-likely situations
  • Complete required inspections, observations, daily reports, and safety documentation
  • Support outage mobilization and demobilization

Safety Professionals provide field safety leadership, observation, coaching, verification, and intervention. They are not assigned to perform craft work, operate equipment, rig loads, or signal cranes.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates should have:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Outreach completed — proof required
  • Relevant experience in power generation, industrial outages, turnarounds, commissioning, plant operations, contractor safety, heavy industrial maintenance, or a comparable high-hazard environment

  • Working knowledge of confined space, hot work, fall protection, PPE, and pre-job planning
  • Experience supporting incident or near-miss investigations
  • Strong field communication and coaching skills
  • Ability to work effectively with craft personnel, supervisors, project leadership, and customers
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationwide
  • Ability to work approximately 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and consecutive days during outage assignments
  • Ability to complete required EnRetro, customer, and site-specific training before deployment

  • Power-plant operations or maintenance
  • Outage implementation
  • Commissioning / startup
  • OEM outage support
  • Contractor safety or Owner's Representative work
  • Industrial shutdowns and turnarounds

Candidates with strong plant operations, mechanical supervision, implementation, commissioning, military technical, or comparable industrial backgrounds may also be considered when they can demonstrate substantial personal field safety leadership.

  • Responded when work scope changed
  • Led a safety meeting or pre-job brief

We value practical judgment, communication skills, and the ability to influence safe field performance.

Employment Structure

This is W-2, outage assignment-based employment.

Safety Professionals are hired for specific power-generation outage assignments and generally work full-time, extended schedules while deployed.

Power-generation outage work is seasonal and project-based. Assignment lengths vary.

EnRetro intends to maintain a qualified team of Safety Professionals to support ongoing outage-season needs. Strong-performing employees may be considered for additional assignments as customer schedules and needs develop. Specific future assignments cannot be guaranteed in advance.

Compensation

Base pay: $52.00 per hour.

Compensation above the base rate may be considered for candidates with significant directly relevant power-generation outage experience, demonstrated field safety leadership, specialized credentials, or assignment-specific qualifications.

Overtime and applicable premium pay are provided according to assignment terms.

Travel, Hotel & Per Diem

Nationwide travel is required.

For approved non-local outage assignments, EnRetro provides or reimburses authorized assignment travel expenses according to the specific assignment.

Depending on the assignment, this may include:

  • Approved hotel or designated lodging
  • Rental vehicle when authorized
  • Approved fuel, parking, and tolls
  • Destination-based per diem / meals and incidental expenses when applicable
  • Other authorized assignment travel expenses

Approved hotel and authorized assignment transportation are separate from the employee's hourly wage. Employees are not expected to pay these approved costs from their $52 hourly compensation.

Before deployment, EnRetro provides written assignment information covering the work location, expected schedule, transportation, lodging, applicable per diem or meal allowance, and expense requirements.

Travel benefits may differ for employees considered local to an assignment.

Work Environment

Candidates must be comfortable with:

  • Multi-week assignments away from home
  • Approximately 12-hour shifts
  • Day or night assignments
  • Weekends and consecutive workdays
  • Extended walking and standing
  • Stairs, ladders, scaffolds, and temporary access systems
