Job description

Health Safety Environment Technician

This full-time exempt position is responsible for ensuring compliance with corporate, federal, and state safety policies. The role involves developing training materials, conducting safety training and new hire orientations, and performing on-site safety observations, inspections, audits, and training needs assessments in accordance with Allan Myers' policies, procedures, and programs. Extensive travel to and from field sites is required, with work locations subject to change.

  1. Conduct site observations for safety compliance and adherence to company policies.
  2. Assist Operations with pre-planning safety through risk assessments, job hazard analysis, hazard identification, and control implementation.
  3. Prepare and provide training documentation to ensure worksites meet OSHA, MSHA, and DOT documentation requirements (e.g., hazcom, rigging, cranes, excavation, scaffolds).
  4. Develop training materials based on site visit assessments.
  5. Perform incident investigations.
  6. Develop and facilitate Toolbox Talks, Safety Flashes, and monthly training modules.
  7. Conduct subcontractor safety orientations and oversee subcontractor safety compliance and performance.
  8. Manage OSHA and MSHA inspections and related training.
  9. Conduct new hire orientations and post-accident drug screens.
  10. Participate in morning huddles, project planning meetings, and dynamic stretching sessions at work sites.
  11. Provide safety expertise to the project team and support jobsite safety efforts.
  12. Purchase safety equipment as necessary.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience & Education/Certification:

  • HSE/Safety-related Bachelor's degree with 0-3 years of experience in an HSE/Safety role; or no degree with 1-3 years of experience in Heavy Civil construction.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Required Skills & Knowledge:

  • Ability to travel overnight or long distances occasionally.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to change.
  • Ability to work under deadlines and pressure.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, and time management skills.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, MSHA, and DOT regulations is preferred.
  • Attention to detail.
