Job summary

GM Performance Power Units in Concord, NC is seeking a Health & Safety Engineering Summer Intern to support the Environmental, Health, and Safety team across manufacturing, laboratory, test, and facility operations. This internship provides field-based experience with workplace safety, risk assessments, compliance activities, and safety programs in a high-performance engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
• Interest in occupational health and safety, manufacturing safety, risk management, or workplace compliance.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with engineers, technicians, supervisors and leaders.
• Comfortable in active manufacturing, laboratory and facility environments.

Responsibilities

• Support safety consultation activities for Manufacturing, Test, Quality, Facilities and Maintenance.
• Assist with workplace observations and hazard assessments to identify unsafe conditions.
• Develop practical guidance on safety requirements and workplace controls.
• Assist with employee and contractor safety engagements related to safe work practices.
• Support incident and near-miss investigations and corrective actions.
• Evaluate occupational hazards including machinery, PPE, chemicals, ergonomics, and more.
• Support safety reviews for new or modified equipment and maintenance activities.
• Assist with safety training, toolbox talks and employee awareness.
• Support compliance assessments and safety documentation.
• Participate in inspections, internal audits and emergency preparedness activities.
