Job summary

Qualifications

• Analytical abilities and good judgment to evaluate patient rights under HIPAA and state laws.
• Knowledge of Rhode Island state/federal laws and HIPAA privacy regulations.
• Ability to read/write/speak English.
• Medical terminology is required.

Responsibilities

• Electronically tracks new patient health records for upcoming appointments and triage.
• Uses the medical records portal to determine patient status or locate paper charts for review by clinicians.
• Sorts medical reports and scans into the electronic health record per policy.
• Ensures authorization for release of information is complete and compliant with privacy laws.
• Assists with uploading digital faxes and scanning mail for the health information department.
• Reviews and sorts medical record authorizations and updates patient charts accordingly.
• Answers patient questions about accessing protected health information and releases.
• Manages lab reconciliations and ensures lab results are linked to the correct chart.
