Job summary

Avera Sacred Heart Hospital seeks a meticulous HIM Specialist to manage recording, dissemination and processing of medical records. You will scan/upload documents, identify errors, and handle information requests to support patient care and revenue cycle processes.

Precision and communication are essential. Responsibilities include coordinating with departments, ensuring data quality, and maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA.

• Visual acuity adequate to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve records and documentation from departments throughout the facility to form an accurate medical record.
• Process records to prepare documentation for scanning or uploading and verify images for clarity.
• Greet and assist patients, staff, and others at the HIM customer service area; respond to requests.
• Analyze electronic health records for quality and identify deficiencies with regulatory requirements.
• Assist with patient identity edits, merges, and overlays within the EHR to ensure record integrity.
• Prepare birth certificate documents and notarize paternity affidavits per state requirements.
• Maintain productivity and quality standards while adhering to HIPAA and safety regulations.
