Job summary

Avera McKennan Hospital is seeking an HIM Specialist to manage the recording, processing, and retrieval of medical records, ensuring accuracy and privacy under HIPAA. You will scan and upload documents, identify data quality issues, assist patients and staff at the HIM service area, and coordinate with departments to maintain complete records.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years previous health information management experience.
• Visual acuity and ability to communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Retrieve records from departments and reconcile for an accurate medical record.
• Process records for scanning: assemble, clean, remove unnecessary docs; scan/upload.
• Greet and assist patients and staff at HIM service area; manage calls.
• Analyze electronic health records for quality and deficiencies; abstract data.
• Maintain record integrity with patient identity edits and merges.
