Job description

Are you energized by helping others? Are you a builder who thrives on fast-paced, high-impact work? Are you driven to change the standard of care in women's health?

The Lactation Network is hiring a Health Information Management Technician. This position is instrumental in ensuring compliance with our medical records documentation and retention practices. In this role you will have the opportunity to help us build out and expand our HIM policies and operations.

We are a small, tight-knit, purpose-driven organization with aggressive growth goals in 2025 and beyond. We don’t have all the answers and we don’t expect you to, either. We do expect you to be curious, hardworking, and striving to be your best self.

Breakdown of the role

  • Chart auditing (50%). The primary responsibility will be verifying that all necessary charting has been completed and is on file. This essential task ensures the smooth progression of our billing process, enabling our Billing Team to submit claims promptly.
  • QA & Compliance Monitoring (25%). You’ll be the subject matter expert in all things HIM-related. This position will be critical in helping us identify areas of opportunity, and developing/implementing QA and compliance processes to monitor future success. Alongside the Director of Revenue Cycle, you’ll analyze and present findings to leadership.
  • Department Collaboration (25%). Working directly with other departments, you will develop standards of excellence and communicate their respective compliance.

What you’ll do

  • Review, Confirm, Report. You’ll review medical documentation and confirm all the necessary requirements for billing are included. Insufficient documentation will be reported to the appropriate teams for follow-up.
  • Quality Assurance. Working with senior management, you will design and implement a QA program to identify opportunities in our HIM documentation and retention operations.
  • Subject Matter Expert. As our go-to person on all HIM-related matters, you will have the opportunity to help create our developing HIM program. Providing knowledge on best practices, compliance, and operational practices.

What we expect from you

  • 3+ years of HIM professional experience
  • CPC Coding certification
  • RHIA or RHIT certification
  • Understanding of HIPAA standards and requirements for releasing patient health information.
  • Strong knowledge of Windows-based software applications. (E.g., Word, Excel…)
  • High detail-orientation
  • Self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively on a team and to take direction.
  • High EQ
  • A glass-half-full attitude
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • A growth mindset

What you can expect from us

  • Unlimited PTO. We work hard. We’re passionate about what we’re building together. We also have lives outside work.
  • Healthcare benefits. Medical plus voluntary vision, dental. (We are a healthcare company, after all.)
  • 401(k) with 4% employer match. We’re planning for the future—and we want to help you do the same.
  • Remote-first culture. We are a distributed, remote-first team. We also like spending time together in our Chicago office and have a flexible in-office culture for those who wish to return to work in-person.
  • Mindfulness and meditation app. You’ll have complimentary access to the leading app for meditations, sleep stories, and other wellness resources.
  • Recharge. We have one designated “no meeting day” each week so you can take a break from videoconferencing and have some quiet time to focus.
  • Professional development. We invest in our team by offering every employee access to a professional development budget.
  • Competitive compensation. We’re looking for top talent.
  • A growth environment. The sky’s the limit.
