The Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections - Corrections Services seeks a Health Information Coordinator at Dixon Correctional Institute in Jackson, LA. The role supports medical records management in a 24-hour facility, ensures HIPAA-compliant documentation flow, and coordinates information between medical, administrative, and security staff.

Appointment is a JOB APPOINTMENT (temporary up to four years) with potential conversion to a permanent probational position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain, organize, and update offender medical records in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of medical documentation into electronic and paper health information systems.
  • Coordinate the flow of health information between medical, administrative, and security staff.
  • Process requests for medical records while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA and departmental policy.
  • Monitor records for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with established standards.
  • Prepare, file, and retrieve medical charts and documentation as needed by clinical staff.
  • Assist with scheduling, documentation logs, and record-keeping for clinical encounters.
  • Support audits, quality assurance reviews, and reporting requirements related to health information management.
  • Maintain secure storage and controlled access to all medical records and protected health information.
  • Provide administrative support to the medical department, including data entry, tracking, and documentation management.

JOB APPOINTMENT

  • A job appointment is a temporary job lasting up to four years; however, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
  • This position may also be filled as a probational appointment if a non-temporary position becomes available in the recruitment process.

If filled by probation, a permanent classified LA State employee, if selected, may be required to accept a probational appointment.

  • Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
  • Salary depends on level of experience.
