Job summary

Louisiana State Penitentiary is seeking a Health Information Coordinator to manage and organize health records and medical information within a correctional facility. The role supports medical operations, ensures proper filing and recording, and protects confidential health information for inmates and staff.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and able to maintain strict confidentiality while assisting medical and administrative staff with records management and information

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Complete orders from Physicians, Nurses, Administrators and other Medical Staff regarding physical and electronic medical records.
  • Reviewing, scanning, indexing, uploading and attaching paper records and documents into EHR while maintaining security and confidentiality.
  • Retrieves and updates patient records upon request and maintains custody files for records removed from department.
  • Performs all Medical Record functions involving physical (paper) health information records and Electronic Health Records (EHR).

The Louisiana State Penitentiary is currently seeking applicants for the position of Health Information Coordinator 1–3, a position that plays an important role in supporting the facility’s medical operations through the management and organization of health records and medical information. This position is responsible for maintaining medical records, ensuring documentation is properly filed and recorded, protecting confidential health information, and assisting medical and administrative staff with records management and information tracking. The Health Information Coordinator helps ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and privacy regulations while supporting the daily operations of the medical department. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, dependable, and able to maintain strict confidentiality. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for success in this position. One year of experience in administrative services; OR

One year of training in or completion of a business or clerical-related curriculum from a business school or technical institute.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the required general experience.

Job Duties:

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work with: Adult male inmates of all custody levels – minimum, medium, maximum (death row) and protective custody.

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
