The Health Information Coordinator performs various clerical duties related to the preparation and maintenance of permanent patient medical records. Reviews documentation standards with oncoming providers and keeps the department Director apprised of any issues that arise in the department.
CPSI and Athena EMR experience preferred.
Medical secretarial training, clerical experience, knowledge of medical terminology, medical office procedures, filing, telephone etiquette, attention to detail, and being a team player.
Scanning of ED, Inpatient, ASU records, and other ancillary reports into CPSI. Verifies dictation is complete, downloaded, printed, and on record. Checks for and verifies signatures in documentation.
Answers telephone in a courteous, professional manner and directs calls as requested.
Handles release of information requests in the absence of the ROI clerk. Distributes ED records to PCPs. Follows procedure for logging pathology reports.
Familiar with HIM department policies and assists in updating when necessary.
Cross-trains HIM employees to ensure position coverage during vacations or an extended leave of absence.
Is aware of and can perform the essential functions of other positions in the department. Ensures all potential privacy issues are reported to the Compliance Officer in a timely manner.
