Qualifications

• Excellent telephone etiquette and strong verbal and written communication.
• Above-average typing and computer skills with the ability to learn and utilize electronic health records and other information systems.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks while meeting established deadlines.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and exercise sound judgment when handling protected health information.
• Knowledge of basic medical terminology is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assemble and prepare patient records for coding and release of information.
• Maintain and index medical records with accuracy and timeliness.
• Process Release of Information requests according to policies.
• Answer and direct telephone calls professionally.
• Retrieve medical records for physicians and staff as needed.
• Run reports to support daily HIM operations.
• Maintain confidentiality of PHI per HIPAA and policies.
• File inpatient reports and medical records per procedures.
