Qualifications

• Minimum of three years occupational experience directly related to Health Assisting.
• Holds or is eligible to obtain a Massachusetts DESE Preliminary Vocational Technical Teacher License in Health Assisting.
• Ability to successfully complete all DESE-required vocational technical teacher testing, literacy requirements, and other requirements for licensure.
• Demonstrated current knowledge of healthcare practices, patient care, infection control, medical terminology, and professional standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality instruction aligned with the Massachusetts DESE Health Assisting Career Vocational Technical Education Framework and all applicable state, industry, safety, and program requirements.
• Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on instruction that integrates healthcare theory, technical skills, clinical applications, academics, employability skills, and professional expectations.
• Teach students the knowledge and skills necessary for entry into healthcare occupations and continued education in nursing, allied health, and other healthcare professions.
• Maintain a classroom and laboratory environment that reflects current healthcare industry standards, equipment, terminology, procedures, and professional expectations.
• Provide instruction in patient care, infection control, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, vital signs, communication, documentation, safety, professionalism, and other competencies identified within the Health Assisting Framework.
• Prepare students to earn applicable industry-recognized credentials and certifications associated with Health Assisting.
• Develop lesson plans, curriculum, assessments, projects, and instructional activities aligned with the Massachusetts CVTE Frameworks and district curriculum.
• Monitor student progress toward technical competencies and provide remediation and support when necessary.
• Provide opportunities to develop essential career-readiness and employability skills.

Position Overview

Brockton High School is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered CTE Health Assisting Teacher to join our dynamic and growing Career and Technical Education Department.

Health Assisting is one of our eleven CTE programs offered at Brockton High School. Our CTE programs provide students with rigorous academic and technical instruction, hands‑on learning, industry‑recognized credentials, work‑based learning experiences, and clearly defined pathways to college, careers, and continued professional training.

This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a collaborative CTE team committed to educating and preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. The Health Assisting instructor will help students develop the technical knowledge, clinical skills, professionalism, compassion, and employability skills necessary to successfully enter one of Massachusetts' largest and most essential workforce sectors.

The ideal candidate will bring current healthcare industry knowledge and experience into the classroom, creating an authentic learning environment where students connect classroom instruction with real‑world healthcare practice. The instructor will work collaboratively with CTE colleagues, academic educators, industry partners, healthcare organizations, postsecondary institutions, and the program’s Advisory Committee to ensure students receive a high‑quality and relevant career and technical education experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality instruction aligned with the Massachusetts DESE Health Assisting Career Vocational Technical Education Framework and all applicable state, industry, safety, and program requirements.
• Develop and deliver engaging, hands‑on instruction that integrates healthcare theory, technical skills, clinical applications, academics, employability skills, and professional expectations.
• Teach students the knowledge and skills necessary for successful entry into healthcare occupations and continued education in nursing, allied health, and other healthcare professions.
• Maintain a classroom and laboratory environment that reflects current healthcare industry standards, equipment, terminology, procedures, and professional expectations.
• Provide instruction in areas including patient care, infection control, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, vital signs, communication, documentation, safety, professionalism, and other competencies identified within the Health Assisting Framework.
• Prepare students to successfully earn applicable industry‑recognized credentials and certifications associated with the Health Assisting program.
• Develop lesson plans, curriculum, assessments, projects, and instructional activities aligned with the Massachusetts CVTE Frameworks and the district’s approved curriculum and Scope and Sequence.
• Monitor student progress toward technical competencies and provide additional instruction, remediation, and support when necessary.
• Provide students with opportunities to develop essential career‑readiness and employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, professionalism, dependability, ethical decision‑making, and workplace responsibility.
• Coordinate and support appropriate clinical, cooperative education, internship, job‑shadowing, and other work‑based learning experiences in collaboration with the CTE Work‑Based Learning Coordinator and healthcare industry partners.
• Build and maintain relationships with hospitals, long‑term care facilities, rehabilitation centers, medical offices, community health organizations, postsecondary institutions, and other healthcare partners.

Long‑term Care Experience

Minimum Qualifications

• Current, valid Massachusetts Registered Nurse RN license.
• Bachelor’s degree or higher meeting Massachusetts DESE requirements for vocational technical teacher licensure in Health Assisting.
• Minimum of three years occupational experience directly related to Health Assisting, subject to applicable DESE‑approved substitutions.
• Holds or is eligible to obtain a Massachusetts DESE Preliminary Vocational Technical Teacher License in Health Assisting OR the ability to obtain one.
• Ability to successfully complete all DESE‑required vocational technical teacher testing, literacy requirements, and other requirements necessary for vocational technical teacher licensure.
• Demonstrated current knowledge of healthcare practices, patient care, patient safety, infection control, medical terminology, and professional standards.
• Ability to provide hands‑on technical instruction in classroom, laboratory, simulation, and clinical environments.
• Ability to meet applicable requirements for supervising students participating in clinical and work‑based learning experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional experience as a Registered Nurse in a clinical healthcare setting, including hospitals, long‑term care, rehabilitation, home health, community health, or other direct patient‑care environments.
• Experience teaching, training, mentoring, or supervising students, nursing assistants, healthcare employees, or other healthcare professionals.
• Experience with Certified Nursing Assistant CNA education, training, competencies, and certification requirements.
• Experience preparing students or employees for healthcare‑related industry‑recognized credentials and certifications.
• Knowledge of Massachusetts Chapter 74 Career Technical Education and the Massachusetts CVTE Health Assisting Framework.
• Experience developing curriculum, lesson plans, competency‑based assessments, hands‑on laboratory activities, simulations, and clinical learning experiences.
• Experience establishing and maintaining partnerships with hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, rehabilitation centers, community health organizations, and other healthcare employers.
• Ability to integrate academic, technical, employability, and career‑readiness skills into Health Assisting instruction.
• Demonstrated ability to create an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment that provides equitable opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds and with varying learning needs.
• Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, classroom‑management, and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to maintaining current knowledge of healthcare practices, technologies, regulations, credentials, and workforce needs.
