Responsibilities

  • Provide first aid and respond to student illness and injury.
  • Administer medications and delegated health procedures under supervision.
  • Maintain confidential student health records.

  • Assist with student health screenings.
  • Monitor immunization documentation and compliance.
  • Communicate with parents, staff, healthcare providers, and emergency responders.
  • Maintain inventory of medications and supplies.
  • Ensure health office documentation is complete and timely.

SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: Starting $17.71/hour (depending on experience) on Classified Hourly Salary Schedule

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

WORK CALENDAR: 158 Days

FTE: 1.0

Full-time with benefits; 4-day work week (Tuesday-Friday)

Position Summary

The Health Assistant provides direct support to the District Nurse by assisting with daily student health services, maintaining confidential health records, administering delegated health procedures, and responding to student illnesses and injuries under the supervision of a licensed school nurse. This position serves as a liaison between students, families, school staff, and healthcare providers while promoting student wellness and safety

Qualifications
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced school environment.
  • Successful completion of the required background check.
Preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), EMT, LPN, or related healthcare experience.
  • Previous experience working in a school or pediatric healthcare setting.
  • Experience in maintaining electronic medical records and student information systems.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Provide first aid and respond appropriately to student illness and injury.
  • Administer medications and delegated health procedures under the supervision of the District Nurse and in accordance with Colorado law and district policy.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records.
  • Monitor students with chronic health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, seizures, allergies, and other medical needs.
  • Assist with student health screenings, including vision and hearing, as directed.
  • Monitor immunization compliance and assist families with required documentation.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, staff, healthcare providers, and emergency responders.
  • Maintain an inventory of medications, medical supplies, and first-aid equipment.
  • Ensure health office documentation is complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Assist with emergency response procedures and student medical emergencies.
  • Support implementation of Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs), 504 Plans, and other student medical accommodations.
  • Maintain compliance with FERPA, HIPAA (where applicable), district policies, and state regulations.
  • Participate in required professional development and health-related training.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the District Nurse or Building Principal.

Evaluation

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with district policy and administrative procedures.
