Health and Safety Specialist

The Safety Specialist is responsible for working with the Safety Manager, VP of HSE, and other stakeholders to provide safety oversight and improvement in support of onsite project teams. The position develops and manages site-specific safety plans; ensures compliance with Global and Regional Corporate Rules, OSHA, legal requirements, and client safety standards; and conducts root-cause analyses of health and safety incidents. The Safety Specialist monitors and documents the effectiveness of safety control measures and directs safety staff in implementing the company Safety Program.

Responsibilities

• Conduct regular site safety audits and inspections to ensure compliance with requirements.
• Serve as a primary contact for onsite safety issues.
• Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
• Participate in monthly site meetings with customers on H&S issues, when required, to satisfy customer requirements.
• Create, manage, and review site-specific safety plans.
• Verify compliance with permit-to-work, lock-out/tagout (LOTO), and confined space procedures.
• Manage internal incidents; ensure safety emergencies and injuries are properly addressed and documented.
• Implement risk assessment processes to identify hazards and ensure appropriate control measures are in place, maintaining a thorough accident management system.

Application Requirements

• A minimum of 3 years’ safety-related experience is preferred.
• Thorough understanding of OSHA requirements.
• Proficiency with computer and Microsoft programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to research pertinent facts and data from internal and external sources.
• Strong leadership and supervision experience, particularly in supervising off-site personnel.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to motivate employees, communicate objectives and action plans, and establish positive stakeholder relationships.
• Ability to implement behavioral-based safety techniques to foster a growing safety culture.

Required licenses or certifications

Desirable

• A minimum of 5 years’ safety-related experience is desirable.
• Background in automated material handling equipment and its implementation.
• Knowledge of industrial and construction safety related to automated material handling equipment.
• Certified OSHA Outreach Trainer.
• ISO 45001 or OHSAS 18001 certification.
