Job summary

Dowagiac Union Schools in Dowagiac, MI is seeking a Health Aide for Justus Gage Elementary to provide basic student health care and support. You will assist with health procedures, maintain student health records, and support safety protocols in a school setting.

The role requires certification in CPR/First Aid and AED, a high school diploma, and strong communication and confidentiality. Experience in health or education settings is preferred.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Provide basic first aid and care to students.
• Assess student complaints and determine appropriate next steps per procedures.
• Contact parents regarding illness, injury, or health concerns as appropriate.
• Assist with administration of student medications per policy and laws.
• Maintain accurate documentation of health office visits and communications.
• Assist students with health plans and emergency action plans as directed.
• Respond to medical emergencies and contact EMS when necessary.
• Follow infection-control, sanitation, and universal precautions.
• Maintain confidentiality of student health and education information.
• Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and healthcare professionals.
• Continued education as designated by District Nurse and Administration.
• Perform other duties as assigned by Building Principal or District administration.

REQUIRED COMMITMENT TO:

• Contact parents/guardians regarding student illness, injury, or other health concerns as appropriate.
• Assist with the administration of student medications in accordance with district policy, physician instructions, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Maintain accurate documentation of student health office visits, medications, injuries, and parent/guardian communications.
• Assist students with established individual health plans, emergency action plans, and other documented health needs as directed.
• Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and contact emergency medical services when necessary.
• Follow appropriate infection-control, sanitation, and universal precaution procedures.
• Maintain the confidentiality of student health and educational information in accordance with district policy and applicable laws.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with students, families, staff, administrators, and healthcare professionals.
• Continued education as designated by the District Nurse and Administration
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, District Nurse, or District Administration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability lift and/or move up to 50lbs
• Sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time
• Must be able to push up to 50lbs such as pushing student wheelchair
• Tolerate exposure to bodily fluids and illness associated student care
