Job summary

Iowa Insurance Division is seeking a Health Actuary to serve as an Insurance Regulation Specialist 2 in the Company Regulation Bureau. You will evaluate insurer rating methodologies and provide expert actuarial insight to ensure a stable, transparent, and financially sound marketplace.

Credentialed candidates (ASA, FSA, MAAA) are preferred. The role requires strong actuarial modeling, collaboration with regulators, and travel to support national and international coordination.

Qualifications

• Actuarial knowledge in modeling, pricing, reserving, and capital analysis.
• Ability to analyze complex financial data and maintain thorough documentation.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage regulatory timelines.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder relationship skills.
• Willingness to travel nationally and internationally.

Responsibilities

• Review insurer filings for completeness, accuracy, and soundness.
• Evaluate actuarial models, assumptions, and capital adequacy.
• Determine regulatory suitability of methodologies.
• Calculate projected loss ratios and review insurer experience.
• Coordinate and evaluate work by external actuaries and examiners.
• Prepare written findings, recommendations, and expert testimony as needed.
• Maintain ACA filing matrices and rate filing observations.
• Collaborate with regulated entities and policymakers to promote compliance.
• Support leadership in regulatory coordination nationally and internationally.
