University of Central Oklahoma seeks a Head Women’s Rowing Coach to lead the women’s rowing program, overseeing coaching, recruiting, and compliance while supporting student-athlete development academically and athletically.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; coaching/teaching experience preferred at the collegiate level; First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain.
  • Experience in intercollegiate athletics and compliance awareness is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of NCAA, Conference and University rules and compliance expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct all rowing practices, training, and competitions.
  • Instruct rowing techniques, race strategy, conditioning, and sport-specific skills.
  • Monitor, evaluate, and document student-athlete performance and progress.
  • Recruit, identify, and retain qualified student-athletes according to NCAA and University regulations.

Position Classification: 10-month, full-time, salary, exempt and benefit-eligible staff position.

The general schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; nights and weekends may be required as season demands.

Position Summary

The Head Women’s Rowing Coach is responsible for the leadership, organization, and administration of the University’s women’s rowing program. The position supports the academic, athletic, and personal development of student-athletes while promoting competitive excellence and ensuring full compliance with NCAA, Conference, and University policies. This role includes approximately 70% coaching/teaching and 30% administrative responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Coaching and Student-Athlete Development
    • Plan, organize, and conduct all practice sessions, training activities, and competitions.
    • Provide instruction in rowing techniques, race strategy, physical conditioning, and sport-specific skills.
    • Monitor, evaluate, and document student-athlete performance and progress.
    • Promote physical safety, sportsmanship, accountability, and academic success.
    • Remain current on coaching methodologies, equipment technologies, and sport rules.
  • Recruiting and Compliance
    • Direct all recruiting activities in accordance with NCAA, Conference, and University regulations.
    • Identify, recruit, and retain academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.
    • Collaborate with the Athletic Compliance Office to ensure program compliance.
    • Self-report potential violations and fully cooperate with compliance reviews or investigations.
  • Program Administration
    • Administer all operational aspects of the women’s rowing program.
    • Manage staffing needs, scholarship allocations, and financial aid coordination.
    • Develop, monitor, and manage annual and monthly operating budgets.
    • Coordinate schedules, travel arrangements, and competition logistics.
    • Contribute to Athletic Department initiatives and support the departmental “total team concept.”
  • Equipment, Boats, and Logistics
    • Oversee the care, maintenance, repair, and inventory of rowing equipment, including shells, oars, launches, trailers, and associated gear.
    • Safely rig, derig, clean, load, unload, store, and transport boats and equipment.
    • Oversee transportation of boats in compliance with University and state transportation requirements.
    • Ensure rowing launches are operated and maintained according to safety standards.
  • Outreach and Representation
    • Serve as a positive representative of the University and Athletics Department.
    • Engage with media, alumni, civic organizations, and campus partners to promote the rowing program.
    • Act as a mentor and role model supporting student-athlete leadership and personal development.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Experience Required
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Coaching, teaching, or instructing experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certification or ability to obtain prior to employment.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
  • Three (3) or more years of coaching experience at the junior or collegiate level.
  • Experience administering an intercollegiate athletics program.
  • Experience recruiting and program management.
  • Master’s degree.
Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities
  • Knowledge of and commitment to NCAA, Conference, and University rules and compliance expectations.
  • Knowledge of rowing principles and coaching techniques.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and planning skills.
  • Ability to recruit, motivate, instruct, and mentor student-athletes.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
