Job summary

The West Suburban YMCA in Newton, MA is seeking a part-time swim team coach to provide leadership, instruction, and motivation for swimmers, with practices prepared to develop skills and teamwork.

The role requires lifeguard/CPR certifications, knowledge of competitive strokes, and the ability to build relationships with swimmers and families while upholding YMCA values of inclusion and safety.

Qualifications

• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
• Current Lifeguard Training Certification or Safety Training for Swim Coaches.
• Knowledge of competitive strokes, techniques and water safety.
• Commitment to anti-racist work and ability to discuss initiatives with members.

Responsibilities

• Coaches and instructs swimmers in accordance with YMCA guidelines, with prepared practices.
• Builds authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; encourages volunteer involvement.
• Attends practices and swim meets; maintains required records.
• Trains and supervises Junior Swim Coaches as assigned.
• Follows all YMCA policies, safety procedures and completes incident reports.
• Organizes equipment and reports damaged items.
